Most teenage school drop-outs, teen mothers and vulnerable singles mothers lack the practical skills necessary for securing viable employment. This has made them more vulnerable to explosive labor practices and susceptible to drug abuse, and prostitution which exposes them to HIV/AIDs infection. In light of this and in an effort to create viable learning opportunities for the vulnerable people in the community, we have created a skills development curriculum that runs for one year. These trainings are free of charge and are open to any member of the community who wishes to participate.
Tailoring
Hair dressing
Shoe Making
Crocheting and craft work
Skilling people to end inter-generational poverty and dependence is at the heart of our approach. During the one year of training in any of the skills development projects, we not only give the participants hands-on skills but also;
- Business management skills
- Bible study classes
- Socio-emotional and physical growth
- Life skills education
This holistic approach has helped to ensure that:
- Adolescents acquire skills for a productive future.
- Parents are able to send their children to school while still being able to provide for all their basic needs.
- Families have stable and sustainable income generating activities.
- School drop outs have options and a second chance at making their future better.
